Mary the Piano Wonder

About the time I moved in with Mary the painter/dog-lover/wine-guzzler at the beginning of the summer, I had a spontaneous desire to learn piano...and play some pop songs, obviously (Gaga, Marina & the Diamonds, and the like).

Lucky for me, Mary already had a keyboard located conveniently in my new room! She was also nice enough to let me use her piano books from when she was a kid. These weren't just any piano books, though. These books contained wrinkled margins full of the illegible scribbles of Toddler Mary.  After a bit of decoding, I figured out that Mary, from an early age, would not stand to have her self-esteem trampled on by some stuffy piano maestro. She was a star and C Major could suck it. Some of the highlights the Mary Piano Diary were: "F" marks changed to "A"s, "wrong" changed to "Way to Go!", and "Needs Improvement" changed to "Needs a talent agent!" To call that little Polish girl precocious would be the understatement of the year ha.

Alas, these kiddie books weren't doing it for me sooo I ordered some new ones. The one that I'm most excited for is...wait for it...Gaga sheet music 101! And even though I leave for Buenos Aires in two weeks (eep!) I'm going to try to learn all I can until then.

So sad I can't take Mary with me but maybe I can take a book or two and, when I'm missing Cross Creek Cafe (our local hangout), chuckle about the girl who dreamed of being a star against all odds.

It's Been A Hot Second...

It's been a hot second since I blogged but lemme tell YOU something.

Update on my whereabouts!

I'm currently interning at three, an Ad and PR agency in Atlanta. I'm doing PR for them so that means pitches, press releases, and general, random scribbled blurbs--anything keeping me writing is a plus! I also went to an Atlanta Rollerderby "bout" recently to help out with a photobooth that Moe's, a three client, setup. The rollergirl who helped us set up? Rudy Huxtabrawl. What a clevah lass!

In other news, I just got gum surgery soooo I look a lot like this now:

and when I find foods that I can eat I feel a little like this:

I also moved to Buckhead while I intern! Mary is the roommates name. She paints (Grad from SCAD), she's cayute, and she's AVAILABLE.

REAL-TIME update!
Eating spaghetti at my desk.

What I think it looks like:      What is actually happening:

Thinking I'll spare you an actual picture.

More to folloowww soon.

Spring, Sprang, Sprung Threadz

It may not be another month til springtime but the weather (sunny with a chance of sunny) and the new vintage clothing (baby green plaid shirts with a chance of striped rompers) says otherwise. Spring has sprung and aint nobody mad!

DyNaMiTe Vintage Clothing in downtown Athenz jumped on the spring wagon and AlliePop and I found some goodies. Flower corduroys, Flower romper, "unicorn jumpin through yo ear" earring. nuff said.

Also, it may not be a "spring thing" piece but Lori, The Vintage Vixen, was holdin the most bomb fur vest for me. Black n White for when I become a Brooklynite (left)
Also, found this baby plant peeking out of the corner of Jittery Joes Coffee Shop when I was doin homewerk.

Coffee. Shrubs. Love.

Also, Also.
Always Baked Update!

Work at Always Baked Bakery has been going well for the past couple of weeks. making cookies. eating cookies....eating more cookies.
But...a couple days ago I tripped (too lanky!), spilled an entire mop bucket (bleach city), and pulled down a rack of dishes in an attempt to get my balance (smash, shatter, and roll)
Below is what became of my purple pants. I guess I gotta bleach those suckers completely noww. Washed Out Plum? #DontHateIt

Now I zzzzz. Midterms Upon Us! I am toast.

If This, Then Happy

At the start of this semester I may have gobbed about how my creative writing teacher, McKnight, was da bee's knees. The greatest. EL JEFE. I also might have mentioned that if your fictional short story was good enough he would read it in class.

First piece I wrote...he TO' APART. to shreds. Fair enough though--twas a bit of rubbish.

But my most recent attempt? He loved it! (and he read it in his smoky, slow-as-molasses voice in front of all my fellow story crafters)

Great week booster for a stressed out lank covered to his ears in dough and internship applications.

So, so, so, I thought I'd also blast my little ditty out here. Nothing like a "Yes And" to up the ante from a room of 12 people to the InterWebz.

Click for the full story and disfrutaaaa!

If This, Then Happy

I am sitting at the top of Tootsie Falls, shivering my skinny white ass off. How was I supposed to know March would be so cold when I asked moms & pops for a Cedar Rapids Birthday Pass? I am 13 today...

Werk, Werk Doughboy.

It has been a while my sweet interweb canvas.

Update, Holla, Holla.

Last week was NYC Fashion Week!
Howeverrrrr due to the poor timing of the blizzard of 2013 I didn't make it up to see muh main gypsy, Stefania. :(

Glad to have the Sartorialist in my life cuz there was some crazy good threads flowin down that runway.

Suno Fall/Winter 2013
 jumpsuit yo diggity do.

...and some Dolce & Gabbana flower coats. GET AT MEH.

Soooo, instead of faring the wintry beast, I kicked it in Ath and so glad I did. Dancing commenced, per usual, and February rooftop-mimosa shenanigans happened, too. (The weather has been quirkin up lately)

In other news, I got a job! So I can pay for my 21st bday in VeGaZzzz.
I am working at a cookie factory called Always Baked and it's da bomb. Fing-smackin cookies.Catchy tunes. my main roomie Allie (got me the job). what could be better? Nada.

But, on a doughier note, I cannot stop eating the little nuggets of joy. We even sell deep fried cookie dough. Ahhh so gewd. Watch out, here comes my journey to dough-hood
......one crumble at a time.

Also, creative writing goes well with the Reggmeister but I need to stop makin my stories so formal. Just sit and let it flow outta ya, says Reg. Hopefully this blog-vomiting helps a bit.

Gonna give it a whirllll. Toot-a-loooo, trollops!

New Year Hurr. Dread Reggie, Wordsmith.

New Year Up In Hurrrr. 2 0 1 3

Got to travel a bit during the December hiatus. Among the highlights were Amsterdam where I visited a friend who lives there and the vintage shopping was GOLDEN. Got a couple ponchos and a big.fur.hood.coat. Macklemore im coming for youu.

I also made it to San Fran and then LA for the New Year.

San Fran involved some Muir Woods wanderings (can't get enough of those grandmother Redwoods)
anddd going out in the Castro&Market St. The streets along the Mission district are full of vibrant, colorful muses, dirty dream-trapped hippies, and foreign street vendors bright-eyed with the prospect of a quick buck one of their Panda hats could bring. I also stumbled upon a Pug in a Wagon on the beach. So, there's that.

Once in LA, the clock struck twelve and Britney and I were jamming to "Lucky".
Grade A Karoake for another bombdiggity year.

Now it's back to the Classicc City and classes started today!
First class-Creative Writing. And my teacher is an older, African American with longggg dreads named Reggie.
He's one of the most passionate people about writing I've ever met. But in a subtle way. Like when he talks he whispers, as if the craft he speaks of is too hallowed to say at a regular volume. I LOVE HIM.

We're writing only short stories and his last line of today's class to defend the glory of a good short story was: "Novels are the most unnatural form of narratives. Humans, you, me, him, speak in anecdotes. Legends, myths, oral lessons, are all passed down in anecdotes. The short story is an anecdote and we've been doing it for thousands of years and, if you ask me, we've gotten pretty good"

Of course he whispered such a thing in his smoky, smooth manner and it got me super pumped to start! First story's due in a week. Leyyygo.
